Confidence

Despite being surrounded by so much evidence that I should believe in myself -I still don’t. I still have thoughts that I am not good enough, and that I do not know enough. Over the last year I have been reflecting and working on ways to improve my confidence and I have come to realise that self confidence is all about you, belief in yourself, despite mistakes, defeats, and failures.

So here are some of my thoughts and tips on building confidence I hope they help you in some way.

How to build confidence in yourself

  • First accept that it is possible to change
  • Learn to recognise your strengths
  • You become your thoughts, “you can do it”
  • Be kind to yourself, you are good enough
  • Learn from your mistakes- failing does not mean failure
  • Forget about the snare of compare and be authentically you
  • Set realistic goals I use the acronym SMART! Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-limited
  • Practice new behaviour eg try to be more assertive
  • Develop a support network- remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness
  • Aim for progress not perfection
  • Be patient- solve one problem at a time
  • Stay determined- do not let problems stop you
  • Accept compliments from others

Know yourself:

  • What is important to you in life?
  • What are your beliefs and values?
  • What do you feel strongly about?
  • What would you like to be doing two years from now?
  • What are you good at?
  • What would you like to do better?

We can all take something positive from each day. Start to believe in you. Invest the time in yourself to create the results you want. I truly believe that once you start believing in yourself magic things will start to happen.
